I have two at first sight unconnected questions....
What etymology of word "Inguard" (Angarde)?
Is there cats in Esteren (Tri-Kazel)?
Inguards and cats
Inguards and cats

Re: Inguards and cats
Wow, I admit the title of this thread surprised me: "Inguards and cats? What?" Ah well, I guess you must have your reasons!
Regarding Inguard/Angarde, I have to admit I don't know the etymology precisely. My best guess would be that it is simply related to guard/garde, which refers to the idea that such strongholds were built for the purpose of keeping watch over strategic places.
Eeyup, there are cats... as well as dogs, lizards, pigeons, badgers, etc. Basically, you can assume that any real-world animal that could realistically survive in Tri-Kazel exists.

Re: Inguards and cats
I thought there might be special Inguard cat guardians or something. In fact, I may introduce this!

Re: Inguards and cats
It would indeed make sense for an Inguard to house a few cats. They're excellent hunters of vermin, so that would make it much easier to preserve food supplies from rats, mice, and whatnot.

Re: Inguards and cats
I think tamsyn want to create some cat like dogs, able to make patrol or protect an house. Usually the felines are too independent to be trained or really domesticated. But I like the idea and I can help you with the stats if you want.

Re: Inguards and cats
If i remember correctly cats were only lately domesticated.
In middle age, people used to have ermine as pets until cats replaced them.

Re: Inguards and cats
The domestication depends of the intentions of the people and the society. Do they want to ? Do they need it ? ... The old Egyptians feel this need in the Antiquity.
The vermin (rats, mouses...) are dangerous for all agricultural society, and that mean, they feel the need for barns and cats (ou sometimes snakes...).
Aniway, wild cats certainly live in Tri-Kazel.
Conclusion : feel free about domesticated cats
