I found this over podcast a while back when they played through Mouseguard and I completely forgot to post here about it when they started Life Choice. If you go far enough back in their archives they played Loch Varn too. It's not the best sound quality, I'd advise not listening to it through earphones as they make a lot of background noise like eating, rustling etc. It is always good to hear how other groups play through SOE.

I'm planning to run this Monday night as the start of my SoE campaign. The characters are an Osag Fighter, a Rehzite Magientist, a Demorthen and a Hunter from Taol-Kaer.

Looking at the PC sheets, I notice that only one PC has placed a single dot in Relation ... everyone else left it empty, although two of them have high Empathy ways. This could cause a lot of trouble using High Mudan strictly as written, since all social interactions in Act II call for high-difficulty Relation checks. I will quietly lower the relation difficulty targets by a step or two, and be generous in awarding bonuses for creative ways to endear themselves to the villagers to get info. I will also allow Perception rolls made to discover unspoken information about villagers to use either Reason OR Empathy ... sometimes being able to see things from another person's perspective makes bizarre behaviour much easier to relate to.

I've also noticed that none of the PCs have dots in Travel, although the Demorthen and Hunter have high Empathy. I'm less worried about this, because low dots in Travel are just an invitation to interesting mishaps on the road... :-)

You do it right :)

And... well... your PC may also learn Travel & Relations because of being confronted to some problems ^^

This is true!

Although the travel ratings are bad, the Hunter and the Demorthen have really strong ratings in Natural Environment. My reading of high Natural Environment but low Travel is that they can survive and move about the forest well on their own, but they aren't great at scaling it up to escorting a party with pack animals, etc.

You may also consider that they are not good at helping other people at walking for long hours or looking for the best way to avoid problems ^^

Or simply that they're good at fending for themselves in a particular location, but will have no idea of how to set a course, keep a good traveling pace, or make good estimates concering the distance, necessary supplies, etc. Many things that are so useful when going on a journey.

I think you should not hesitate to show how your PCs' lack of practice in certain Domains can considerably handicap them, making the journey considerably longer, harder, and more expensive. Not that I want to be harsh on your PCs, but it would only be fair!
Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!
