Game in Chicago?
Game in Chicago?
Anyone running or interested in running a Shadows of Esteren campaign in Chicago? I've been reading the core book and am very interested to play.

...
Seems to be nobody in Chicago knowing Esteren ?...
Well, bac, it feel like you've got to "convert" some friends to the game !
You could maybe begin with them some scenarios from Book 0 - Prologue and / or Book 2 - Travel...
Otherwise, you may find players on forums (play by forum) or other ways to play on the Internet ... ?
Hope you'll soon find partners !

Yeah I'm having a tough time finding people. I was hoping to play before I GM and learn all the secrets. That's why I haven't tried to convert my current group that I GM for.
Not a big fan of playing online, but I'll keep searching. Maybe I'll just run my group through book 0 since there are no spoilers in that.

To actually learn all of Shadows of Esteren's secrets, you'd have to play with all of its GMs! You see, since there is no official version of the Secrets as of now, each GM has his/her own version of the universe's Secrets... which I personally find quite thrilling.bac a écrit :I was hoping to play before I GM and learn all the secrets.
So don't hesitate to build your very own Secrets for Esteren and share them here, or draw inspiration from what the other members have constructed so far

Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!

It looks to me like book 2 has a lot of spoilers for any player that reads through it, but would be great material for GMs. I'd just like to play in a campaign first, and then read the book and run my own campaign.Clovis a écrit :To actually learn all of Shadows of Esteren's secrets, you'd have to play with all of its GMs! That's true: Book 2 was intended to be a book for Game Masters.bac a écrit :It looks to me like book 2 has a lot of spoilers for any player that reads through it, but would be great material for GMs. I'd just like to play in a campaign first, and then read the book and run my own campaign.
I understand what you mean: most of the time, I'd rather experience a game as a Player before jumping in as as a GM too. Can't blame you for that!

Re: Game in Chicago?
Hey Bac,
I'm in Chicago! I used to be a pretty avid gamer, but I haven't done any RPG gaming in many years. I saw Shadows of Esteren and backed it as I thought it looked really up my alley (I'm not a hack and slash type guy, prefer games with a lot more than that to it). Shadows definitely delivered, and I've been reading through most of the books and like what I see.
These days I'm more about reading the books and being entertained by the settings (I buy all the L5R books just to read, plan to do the same with Shadows). I thought I'd throw my name out there as it doesn't look like you're finding a lot of people in Chicago.
Ryan.
