So, my players have decided to stir a hornets' nest and are going to fight a group of marauding Reizhite soldiers next session. I was expecting the PCs to witness the scene and turn back, but they decided to test their luck. Which means, of course, that I have to stat up the NPC soldiers.
Milquetoast Marauder
We start with the Fighter class, as they are soldiers by profession and marauders by choice. (Close Combat: 5; Feats: 3)
For their other profession, we throw in a few skills related to soldiery.
Perception (2)
Shooting & Throwing (2)
Travel (1)
Stealth (1)
Your average Tri-Kazelian soldier, even one from Reizh, is going to come from a rural community. So...
Military service: Close Combat (1) (Total: 6)
Rural upbringing: Natural Environment (1)
Social class: Commoner: +1 Feats (Total: 4), +1 Natural Environment (Total: 2)
Ways:
Combativeness: 5 (Soldiers who choose to become marauders are dangerously violent and have chosen to embrace their latent aggression rather than control it)
Creativity: 4 (These men are rebellious and have decided to make their own way in life)
Empathy: 3 (Marauders are focused on their inward greed and anger, to the exclusion of their concern for the world around them, let alone the feelings of others. However, their rebellious, criminal life necessitates caution and being attuned to their surroundings)
Reason: 2 (By embracing their base desires, marauders reject reason and logic, which interfere with doing whatever they want)
Conviction: 1 (Soldiers who turn their blades on their countrymen have rejected any sort of principle: Their only principle is doing what they want, when they want it)
Advantages:
The average soldier is going to be a bit tougher than your average peasant, so let's give them a couple of advantages to reflect this. I won't give them any doubled advantages, though -- this is only an average soldier, not an exceptional NPC who stands out from the others.
Good Health: -40 XP, +1 HP
Sturdy: -30 XP, +1 Stamina, +1 Feats
We'll spend the remaining 30 XP on Feats, Perception, and Travel.
Attack: 11 (short sword) 8 (bow)
Damage: 2 (short sword) 2 (bow)
Defense: 10
Speed: 8
Potential: 2
Mental Resistance: 6
Stamina: 11
Health: 20/15/10/5
Skills:
Close Combat: 5 (Swords 6); Shooting and Throwing: 3; Feats: 5 (+1 bonus for endurance-related checks); Perception: 3; Natural Environment: 2; Travel: 2; Stealth: 1
