In this case, why should we wait the people to die to be turned into a zombie ?
The spores could act as an illness. That would allow to shade from the normal state to the end...

Being malicious could be to use one PC or NPC to create a new city in the case of the one you used in your scenario.

I could do something like that. Since this was only a one shot game I didn't want to pull too much into it, but I doubt that this is the last time that they will see this Feond. Maybe next time they meet him his spores will have evolved.

I read your report, and as a whole, seems like a good game session to me. To be perfectly fair, there are a couple things that rub me the wrong way: the "Charles Simon" name, which does not sound very Celtic (although it's a very minor complaint), and the Golden City, which seems too fantastical for Esteren's realistic setting.

However, as always, it's only my personal opinion, and reflects more my way of playing Esteren than a formal, decisive disapproval. In the end, if you and your players enjoyed this scenario, then that's obviously what matters most!

Also, I must commend you for the end, which makes the whole adventure actually seem like a delirious dream. Very Loch Varn-esque! ;)
Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!

I agree that the Charles Simon name isn't the most appropriate. Unfortunately, that was due to lack of planning. When we started the game and they asked what the village leader's name was I realized I had forgotten to give him one, so I had to throw one out on the spot. I normally have a list of names for a situation like that when I run a campaign, but it was just a single game to introduce the system.

One thing that didn't really come out in the report well is the fact that no one believed the story (except Charles Simon and Morgan). That is also why I tied in the ending that I did, to leave the question of whether it was true or not. It seems like this has drummed up some interest in playing a longer game of this, so I'm going to start setting some ground work for a longer story.

I know how it is, don't worry! Generally, when I have to deal with such a situation (which happens very often, since I suck big time at preparing scenarios), I improvise a more-or-less Celtic-sounding name and scribble it down to remember it.

"You are summoned by the village's Ansailéir whose name is... Goën... (yeah, seems about right)."

Ok, I see. Good way of reacting to your players' expectations!

And I thing a campaign would really be awesome: playing one-shot scenarios is one thing, but it truly doesn't hold a candle to a complete campaign with its recurring NPCs, its memories, its background stories, etc. I hope that such a prospect will go far!
