Here's the other Canvas I've been working on, with a slightly different track.
The full Canvas can be downloaded in PDF format from here: The Beasts of Black Watch
The summary is as follows:
Cariug Hertlin is the leader of a mercenary group called ‘The Black Watch’, operating out of a ruined keep in the hinterland of Reizh, close to the border with Taol-Kaer. The Black Watch are a formidable fighting group, feared for their prowess in combat and merciless attitude on the battlefield. Axes for hire to the highest bidder, they don’t come cheap but are often instrumental in turning the tide of any battle in which they participate, fighting in border skirmishes and internecine conflicts across the region.
Disturbing rumours have been filtering through in nearby towns and villages that The Black Watch are now using savage beasts with impossible strength to lead the charge into battle. These creatures are horrific, rending their enemies limb from limb and feasting on their broken corpses, barely controllable. Speculation is rife that Cariug has found a way to bend Feondas to his will, or that he has tapped into the Spirit World to enhance his soldiers somehow.
In actual fact, a renegade Magientist, Celiana deAugustine, has offered her services to Cariug in exchange for the right to carry out her experiments in the keep. She has devised a Flux-powered machine which extracts and combines the life-essence of man and animal, twisting those individuals who are injected with the newly-created serum into monstrous but mindless beasts with incredible stamina and strength.

Re: [WIP] The Beasts of Black Watch
I kind of like the idea. It's definitely fits between The Island of Doctor Moreau and the Werebeasts of Gemmel. I'm not too sure about the ability/ knowledge of magientists being able to go that far though.
Genetic is something very top notch study but I can't argue more about it.
Who know, maybe Feondas are only the progeny of the Continent magientists global failure over nature and humain beings.
But nice ideas there, will definitely pick some

Re: [WIP] The Beasts of Black Watch
Thanks for the comments - I, too, wasn't sure what Magientists are or aren't capable of doing, but Book 1 alludes to experimentation on people 'behind closed doors', so just extrapolated that idea! I'm working on the basis that most Artefacts are 'black boxes', Flux goes in and something comes out (whether it's light, power, enhanced vision, etc), so medical-type devices aren't an unreasonable possibility I suppose.
If the Canvas gives people some ideas or material to work with, then I consider that a success!
Cheers,
Z

Re: [WIP] The Beasts of Black Watch
I've no doubt your canvas will give ideas. That's for sure.
I believe it's also important to have people thinking out of the box as it freshen the community with new ideas. There's nothing wrong with your canvas, as far as I can tell
As a matter fact, I took some bit here and there already to fill the gaps in the writing of my adventure (actually yours) like the BlackWatch mercenaries and beasts that can smell feondas far sooner than humans.
In fact, I wonder why there's no dogs/ goose and the like that guard the cities or patrol with militia. Their smell must be useful to prevent incoming feondas ... but I'm flooding now. This must be treated in another topic
