History
Born in a small village in Taol-Kaer, his father was a woodcarver just as his father had been before him. While he often thought that he might do something else with his life, he discovered at an early age that he had a talent for woodwork, and it was only natural for him to continue with his father's line of work. His two brothers and one sister were rather eager to leave the village and see the world, but Cheral didn't have that attitude, at least not in the early days.
As he advanced in his apprenticeship in woodworking and carving, Cheral proved himself to be a most adept student, and developed a bit of a patronage among some of the villagers and several people from nearby villages who liked his work. He took great pride in his work, and found himself to be rather arrogant at times about the quality of his work; he argued with his father as he grew older, and eventually the young man decided that he needed to leave the village and start up a new business of his own in a different village or community, several leagues away. Which is what he did. His father was not pleased about this, but since his youngest brother had decided to take up their father's business, and feeling that Cheral had learned all he knew, blessed his son on his new endeavour before letting him leave.
While travelling with a small party, including a varigal, to the new village, they were camped one night and attacked in a small glen by a pack of timber wolves. While they were able to drive off the timber wolves, Cheral witnessed one of the party members lose a hand to the beasts, and is now terrified of the creatures. Settling in a small village near the Taol-Kaer/Gwidrite border, Cheral opened up a new woodcrafting business, and developed a good clientele, despite his youth, but made an enemy in Rahgast, a rival woodcrafter, some of whose customers he stole. Due to his pride, Cheral has developed an interest in using other, more exotic, woods in his craft, and thus has taken to travelling once or twice per year to various parts of the peninsula to find these different types of wood, leaving his shop in the charge of his apprentice, Amerlla, who is almost ready to open a crafting business of her own.
Of late, he has befriended Anforlan, a monk of the Temple, who travels through the area every so often, and has decided that he'd like to take him with him on his next foray for new woods. In addition, a young varigal has purchased materials from his shop that he has taken a liking to as well, and he may ask her to travel with him in future. He is also currently in a relationship with Gaeena, a young woman of the village, whom he very much loves and wants to settle down with, but she feels that he needs to become more established in his profession before that can happen.
Personality
Character Traits: Resourceful, Prideful
Latent Disorder: Mental Confusion
By nature a somewhat quiet person, Cheral is very good at what he does, and knows it, to the point where he is prideful of his work to the point of arrogance. While he is not an overly educated man, Cheral has a good deal of common sense (except when it comes to timber wolves!) and is also resourceful in the extreme, using what is at hand to deal with situations. He has developed an interest in travel, not just from seeking out new, exotic forms of wood to use in his work, but also a genuine curiosity to see other places and peoples.
