Hullo, folks,

I didn't know quite where to post this subject here on the forums, but figured the main Secrets folder made as much sense as anything else. If this material needs to be moved, I trust the moderators will do so.

In any event, I've got a question for everyone about the world of Shadows of Esteren, literally...

On the map of Tri-Kazel, in the area around the big name of "Taol-Kaer", there are three locations - Frendian, Castle of Aodreth, and Morail Peak. Is there any information in Livre 2 - Voyages or anywhere else about these three locations? If any of the world designers have some information on these locations, I would be most appreciative. I'm asking because my campaign is set in a village some 35 miles or so from Frendian.

Any help you can give me in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

Unfortunately, since Book 2 has yet to be released, I think it would be unappropriate to tell you about its contents, which is why I won't tell whether more details are provided about these three locations.

However, by advice would be to not let that stop you: I have a tendency to just make things up when I don't directly know about such or such element of the universe, or even to simply change some when I deem it useful. Therefore, don't hesitate to do the same and let your imagination go wild... and if it happens that it doesn't fit what is said in future releases of the series, you can always try to conciliate your version and the by-the-book one.

The map was originaly sold for the first time with the screen and "Livre 2 - Voyage". It means that the location on the map will all be described. You will not have a complete and long description for each, so you certainly will have the possibility to create new communities without disturbing the whole universe !

So... the answer to your questions about Frendian are there, I think !

Umm, but Book 2 has been released - in French! And it's not like the English book is going to be released for a good six to eight months yet, true? So, you won't even tell me whether there is more detail provided on these three locations in that book? Hmm, well, I guess I can assume that the descriptions of these locations, if they are in the material for Book 2, would be along the lines of descriptions found on pages 58-59 in length and description from Book 1 - Universe. Feh!

I do this stuff anyway for all the settings I game, but I was hoping to stick with the game world for now, since there's not really any indications on some of these places what might be there. Among other things. And like I said, my campaign takes place very near these places. But I guess I'm going to have to improvise and not worry about "the truth" of these locations when Book 2 comes out in English. Oh, well.

That is excellent to hear, Iris, and reassures me somewhat in regards to the map and its locations marked out. However, from the point of view of the Kickstarter surrounding this product, Book 2, what does that mean in terms of the perks for those of us who picked up the map and GL Screen in the Kicstarter, at GenCon, or in the current Kickstarter? Ah, right, perhaps a new GL Screen (as has been talked out elsewhere) and a new, revised, corrected version of the map?

Fortunately, I can read French (I work as a translator for the government), so I will be able to access that material. (The trouble is since I do this all day at work, there are times when I come home and do this again in the evening for gaming, it feels like work!) Peu importe, je tiens à vous remercier de m'avoir donné le lien vers ce morceau de court métrage de fiction sur Frendian. About the different pledge, perks and so on in the Kickstarter, I can't give you any sure information... I must ask Nel', as the leader of the team, he is the One who knows everything (or should ). I'm almost always occupied by writing for the next books ... in a way, we could say, I work in the shadows of the Shadows

If you need any other precise information for your campaign, don't hesitate to ask, I do my best to help the poor Game Leader who have already soooooo much to do to satisfy capricious Players ( )

A university teacher, huh? I'm impressed.

That said, to be honest, when it comes to the translation work, I try to leave my work at work and relax more at home, but I knew what I was getting into with Shadows of Esteren, and that there would be lots of French fan-based and other material for the game that I would want to get, and thus have to translate. So, I'm dealing with it as best I can.

I figured that, but was just commenting on the whole pledge/perks thing for the Kickstarter. Then again, since there has never been a Kickstarter for the French version of the game, I guess I should feel lucky.
