Monastery of Tuath - Jalan's fate

I've come across an inconsistency in Vengeful Words concerning the fate of the monk Jalan that's been giving me Temporary Trauma.
In the top section on page 31, The Monastery's Recent History, paragraph 3 states that "Garan had him killed by his henchmen, and claimed that the young monk had fled because of a lack of fervor."
Then on page 37, Scene 2, Clues held by Eber, states that Eber reveals that: "Most importantly, he will speak of Jalan, found suffocated to death less than three months ago."
Eber is not one of Garan's henchmen, so would have be told that Jalan had fled and therefore would not have seen his body - if the first statement is true..?
Or are both statements true? Garan has descended into madness to such an extent and has stated this 'fact' so many times that he now believes this to be the truth, even though some of the other monks have seen Jalan's body and know where he is buried..!
I've had a quick search of the forum and can't find any reference to this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
