Mekones - what do they actually do?

So, Mekones are a "network of artificial veins supplied with Flux, implanted in the body of some Magientists to improve their abilities" (Book 1, Glossary p.286). That seems clear but I can't seem to find any mechanical benefit, only their addictive properties (Book 1, p.244).

Have I missed something or is this left entirely up to the GL? If the later, what have others done (if anything)?

There's actually a similar topic in the forum's french section.
There is no official rules yet but GL have their theories and mekones uses have been debated.
Among our discussions here are our different theories about them :

- Mekônes are in fact extractor collecting some organic fuel from their own host

- Mekônes could give some unusual abilities in interaction with the flux (it could help the host sense presence of flux veins or better understand its ways, etc)

- Mekones could allow a better synchronisation with flux's artifacts : it could amplifie artifacts's autonomy or lower their risk of failure etc.

- Mekônes could be used as some abilities enhancers, adrenalyne boost that sort of things.

In all these theories it is commonly admitted that the benefits come to a heavy price, generally the loss of sanity and/or vigor, flux addiction.
And to the last theories : Mekônes wouldn't be beneficial at all :

- Mekônes could be the way to survive a long lasting flux's poisoning (that's why experienced magientists and scientors tend to bear them).

- Mekônes could not be in fact artifacts but a mutation due to flux's poisoning, some GL even emitted the idea that mekônes are feondas born from the flux and would eventually transform their host into feondas a phenomenon magientist try to hide thus claiming mekônes to be artifacts.

Mere speculation of course but we all hope to get more information in the tome "secrets".
