How you think can you use first aid (medicine) on yourself?
And can you "care" about yourself?
And finally can you care about someone while you rest?

In my opinion, the answer to all of those questions would be "yes."

The only one I am dubious about is the third. Depends how bad your wounds are.

Like tamsyn, if you have bad wounds you are too weak to take care about someone with the appropriate accuracy, except excepting boil water for infusion

I can actually speak from experience. If your wounds are overwhelming and by this I mean blood loss, pain, or discomfort it is extremely hard to do first aid on yourself.
@Iz - And I wouldn't be so quick to say you can't mess up boiling water. If you are out of it, it is very simple to either under boil water, thinking that it would still draw out the correct potency, or to over boil it, which can effectively kill the potency of some infusions. Always keep that in mind.

I think the only time a character would be in such a bad condition that he absolutely couldn't take care of himself would be if he were in the Agony state, in which case he couldn't make skill checks anyway.
Although taking a -3 on your skill checks from being seriously wounded is probably a good disincentive for people relying on being able to treat themselves.

It all depends on where you have been wounded: if your leg has been pierced, one of your fingers cut, or your ear bitten, I'd say that you can tend to your own injuries... although I would give the Player a penalty, to make for the fact that it is difficult to focus because of the pain when you start poking at your wounds.
However, if your back has been slashed, or you have a broken arm, good luck trying to take care of
that by yourself!
And finally can you care about someone while you rest?
Well that seems paradoxical, doesn't it? After all, "resting" basically means that you're not doing much, while caring for someone implies giving them attention and reacting reasonably quickly to whatever urgency may occur, which you cannot do if you stay in bed.
