The most common (and traditional) entertainment is singing (look at the trine paragraphe) so in winter people with great voices sing for the others. I think lot's of people can play music, in simple forms (drums, flutes, etc.) and they have thein own bard, most of the time. But more than an entertainer is generally a member of the council, too.
It's as you want ^^

It's true, and that's why I consider them as a part of bigger caravans. But there is merchants caravan too, and have a troup with is a good way to earn a bit more daols :D
Maybe it's too dangerous for a handful troup to travel, except maybe in the high density of population regions (near big cities). Short trips will be possible.

To be honest, I don't know. In my conception of SoE some new entertainment birth in the big cities, expecially in Reizh, less traditionalist. if exist it's something simple, kinds of stories told and a little more staged.

JohnK a écrit : Not your fault, Iz. I posted the thread here in the Game System section, but perhaps it should have gone in the Universe section. To be honest, it's hard to know at times, and I get a little stressed worrying about whether I'm putting stuff in the wrong sections or what. :) Heck, part of me wasn't sure that this stuff shouldn't have gone in the Secrets section.
Well discussion with no rules => universe. Rules => sytem.
If it's genalist and is a deepening of the universe => universe. If something wich can impact the pleasure of players, like elements of a story, conspiracies, secrets & Co => GL eyes only in the secret parts. It's the same about GL tips.

But sometimes it's hard to make a distinction.

This just goes to emphasize that the game could use a supplement dealing with cultures and the like all by itself. :)

This still makes me think that an Entertainer would still be a useful profession to have in the game, especially if one doesn't want to play a Bard with all the political, economic, and social wrangling that entails. Like I said in an earlier post, I will write this up shortly. Posting it here would be best, yes? :)

I definitely see entertainer troupes existing in that case. It seems to me that there would be a good reason for them to travel to the larger cities, and that some village appearances would be useful as well. For trips to areas outside of the larger cities, single entertainers might join merchant caravans or other groups that are travelling into the wilderness to rural villages, but that might not be as viable. What do you think?

Part of me thinks that theatre is something that the people of Tri-Kazel don't have time for, simply because the game world is so dangerous that you couldn't get the theatre performances out to the villages and small communities, given the dangers of travel in the world. So, if theatre did exist, it would be primarily in larger cities where some form of permanent stage areas could be constructed and exist.

As for Reizh, I'm not sure what sort of entertainments those people like. They're just so different in some respects from the folk of Taol-Kaer and Gwidre. :)
Cheers!

...I'm new to the boards and to Shadows of Esteren, so please be kind to me.

Well, at least I got this thread in the right place. Sort of. :)

Okay, thanks for mentioning that. It's a good series of guidelines.

Hullo, folks,

As promised, here is my write-up on the Entertainer.

ENTERTAINER
Entertainers are those who entertain people (singing, dancing, juggling, making music, story and song, etc.), who view their purpose as to bring some light and joy into the lives of others by their craft, and have no extraneous agenda for doing so. Some are sedentary, making their living in one community (usually a city or town), but others travel the peninsula, either as part of an entertainment troupe or perhaps with Tarish or merchant caravans, as there is safety in numbers, so as to entertain in small villages and rural communities.
Primary Domain: Performance
Secondary Domain: Free Choice

This is just a first draft, so thoughts, comments, etc. are more than welcome. Please let me know what you think. Thanks. :)
Cheers!
