I'm far from being an expert in history, but without going into too much detail, I can say Middle Age Scotland is probably the closest setting to Esteren's.

Movies like Braveheart may be a good source of inspiration for Esteren's picturesque landscapes, harsh atmosphere, and also confrontation between traditional beliefs and a new religion.

If I remember well, It was said on the french forum that the inspiration period with cloth are XI ou XII century (High Middle Age). But the technology is more based on the XVII century, with lot of variability between the cities and the countries.

Hello !

It depends of the region :
  • Deas : between celtic period & scotland
  • Taol-Ker : about VIth - VIIIth century in the isolated territories, but XIth / XIIIth century in the cities
  • Gwidre : XIIth /XIIIth century + touch of XVI th century
  • Reizh : XIII th century + touches of XVIth / XVIIIth century + steampunk for magience

... Does it help you ? ... As you can see it, the dominant ambiance is medieval, with element of other period, especialy for the dogma and ideology ...

Hello !

Do you see this magnificent green on my name ? ... that means that I am in the credits of the books  (this is the only "green" smiley...)

You will normaly see my name on the credit of : design & development ; documentation work ; writing ; development & revision ;) For the moment, the most of the work (for the next books incoming) : documentation & writing. A lot of both. I do less revision and this is no more the time of the initial development... (Well, as I said in the french section, I wrote since the 1st of August about100 to 120 pages  )...

... So I think I can answer "YES" to the question :P

Osag settlements are almost exclusively located in the Lands of Dèas, which is the southwestern part of Taol-Kaer. Although some other peoples might be considered as comparable to the Osags, from the point of view of the society and way of life (such as the ones living in remote regions of the kingdom of Gwidre and remaining faithful to traditional beliefs and customs), nowhere are there other Osag villages in the peninsula.

For the clothes it was the XVIII century if I recall.

Personnally I compare the setting to the end of the middle age and the dawn of the Renaissance, but indeed the actual answer is spreaded from the IIIrd century for the traditionnal Osag communities to the XIXth century for some of the great cities, even further in some magientist's labs.
