I was reading book 1 the other day and wondered about the rest of the world if there are aircraft and steam tech like that if outside of the little peninsula the game takes place in if the tri-kezelians were a 3rd world country or something to the rest of them :p

Stem technology have been discovered by Magientists, but it's mentioned only once in the Book 1 - Universe, and it seems that Flux is more powerful and useful :)

still its like the world is using flux powered tech where people in tri kezel area most advanced tech is the windmill and steelforging maybe? I did have a few ideas for new factions in a home game. Like viking - esque raiders pillaging the coast and eventually maybe a magic system similar to demorthen magic but using futhark instead of ogham

Shadows of Esteren is basically meant to focus almost exclusively on Tri-Kazel, so there are not supposed to be other populations involved than the ones detailed in Book 1, but if you want to add your own flavor to the game, feel free to do so!

Desciptions of the Continet seem to suggest a steampunk/dieselpunk/neo-industrial level of technology; Magience runs one big power block, and then there's the super-northern arctic theocracy. No other places are mentioned.

But yes, the super-magience nation apparently CAN make flying machines. Maybe those machines are limited to large ungainly ships, and you're not going to find hover-bikes and such, too. Maybe an engine big enough to lift a ship is so expensive and huge that if you're going to build it, its only cost-effective to build it huge and awesome. Maybe it works with jets, or helicopter blades, or freaking anti-gravity, or an E-zo field that reduces the ship's weight. It runs on Flux, after all.

Of course, a dude who traveled to those regions from tri-kazel found nothing but barren wilderness and savages. I suspect time travel. Or maybe he just went the wrong way.

Regardless, Tri-Kazel is not a 3rd-world country to the rest of the world. ideas of 1st and 3rd world are predicated on a modern globalized society. This setting doesn't have easy travel to anywhere, Tri-Kazel isn't being exploited by foreign powers; all the "foreign" influences are people just like the peninsula natives working for their own local leaders and philosophies. A magientist isn't secretly advancing the political aims of an immortal cyborg-lord back on the continet, he's working to establish his university/factory and improve/invest in Tri-Kazel.

All in all, the continent is also the prototypical "great beyond," the mysterious, faraway place about which tales of wonders are told. It's sort of like Atlantis: some believe anything about it is just a load of malarkey, others imagine a thriving civilization, and others simply deem it unworthy of any attention, prefering to focus on immediate issues. Almost anything can come from the continent, so it gives great material for the Leader to work with.
