Pronunciation Guide?
Pronunciation Guide?
I'm working my way through the core rulebook and the prologue module and, given the nature of the game, there are a lot of made-up words. It's goes with fantasy, I get that.
However, some of the words I'm completely stumped on how to pronounce. Is there a guide out there to help with that?

Re: Pronunciation Guide?
If you were a kickstarter backer you should have received a mail with the download link by now.
I don't know if the guide is meant to be part of book2.
But I think they should create a download link on the forum, as it is such an essential part of the world.

Roleplaying is a bit like travelling. You always discover new places and meet new people.

I wasn't a backer. I found out about the game after it had already completed.
So... I'm out of luck?

Selderane, do not despair
We will do another KS soon and I think it will good to release the Pronunciation Guide again for the backers.
And after that, release it on a free version could be good I think.

I'm glad to hear a pronunciation guide even exists! I was reticent to post the question because I assumed I was probably the only one having difficulty.
Here's hoping the next Kickstarter gets up soon and I don't miss it!

Nope, you're not the only one... that's precisely why we decided to make a pronunciation guide!selderane a écrit :I'm glad to hear a pronunciation guide even exists! I was reticent to post the question because I assumed I was probably the only one having difficulty.

Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!
Re: Pronunciation Guide?
That's great news! I've just finished the book and thought the same thing. It would be great it if the guide doubled as a glossary and a pronunciation guide?Clovis a écrit :Nope, you're not the only one... that's precisely why we decided to make a pronunciation guide!selderane a écrit :I'm glad to hear a pronunciation guide even exists! So: Name, Pronunciation, Explanation.
Cheers
Re: Pronunciation Guide?
While I completely understand the desire to learn how all of Esteren's important words are "supposed" to be pronounced, I think one of the great things about it is that you can pronounce them by whatever guidelines you want. The official pronunciation of everything is, basically, a French pronunciation of various Gaelic-inspired words (so if you ever learned any French, you're all set), but if you want to pronounce them differently at your gaming table, that's your prerogative.
I prefer to pronounce them as though they were actual Gaelic words, so I taught myself the basics of Irish pronunciation and apply it to Esteren terminology (useful resource: http://www.standingstones.com/gaelpron.html). You could just as easily read everything as though it were straight-up English, if you wanted to.

Re: Pronunciation Guide?
I agree with Dragoslav : the pronounciation guide is only a proposal, a way to have the same pronounciation, in order to understand anoter Esteren Game Leader speaking about the game
... you can also admit that every pronounciation is correct, and only a matter of dialect & accent !

Re: Pronunciation Guide?
Im interesting why according to pronounce guide words
Osta-Baille (oh-stah-bahy)
Morcail (mohr-kahy)
lost "l" at end of word?

The Leader should not hesitate to slaughter the PCs at the slightest mistake in order to instil a heavy, horrific atmosphere
