A nice idea! I admit it's often difficult for me to get the Internet where I usually Master, but at any rate, I approve of the concept!

Yeah I often run in places with little/no internet. I use a piece of software called Syrinscape which is excellent. I like being able to play with the levels so it can change as the scene goes on.

You're very welcome :) It is developed by a roleplayer who is great at taking feedback e.g. Recently added more scifi suitable stuff after the community asked for it. The dev, Ben, is one of the Dice Stormers youtube channel guys.

Yeah he has taken on a few new composers recently to help add more soundscapes at an even faster pace, as well as working on a separate scifi player too. There are 5 full members of staff plus a load of freelancers now I think. Recently they announced that they have teamed up with Paizo and are producing an official Pathfinder soundscape too.

The two free ones are good, each soundscape is pretty reasonably priced and you can pick up Soundpacks for $20 which includes 6 different scapes. There are also a few horror ones though I haven't tried them personally.

I just need the software to get popular enough that Lucasfilm agree to let him do an official Star Wars Edge of the Empire soundscape and my gaming ambience will be complete :)

That would be really great! I've been cobbling stuff together from the internet for my weekly Edge game.

At least, once the SoundSet Creator will release, you'll be able to create your own soundset for Star Wars, using SWTOR, KOTOR and movies soundtracks !

I'm currently waiting for this creator to make an Esteren soundset

I had the pleasure of working with the good old:

RPG-SOUNDMIXER / http://www.rpgsoundmixer.de for the last couple of years.

The programm is a litte difficult to handle at first, however the options are still very impressive (especially, when condidering the age of the programm) - you can add in your own sounds, effects, music; compose effects, settings and scenes, bind keys to certain events, etc. For example, I created a scene "rain" where I have 10 different intensities on different keys. So when the time was ready to increase the downpour, I just hit a single key as not to get distracted from the storytelling too much... For hardcore fx-fans, who can do with a crude look and a passion for creating their own stuff, a possible and affordable alternative.

However, I don´t use ambient-sounds as much any more. First, it is hell of a lot of work to set up a convincing and fitting sound frames for every adventure without reusing the same settings over and over again. And to end up with the same harp-player, burp, patron, etc. in every tavern is soon very depressing.
Second, I got the impression, that music works a LOT better to set the emotional background anyway - with a very few exeptions.

Right now, I am looking into something called: RPG Ambience / http://www.rpg-ambience.com

It is more or less a lightweight media-player which allows to combine playlists and visuals to scenes... a little like a powerpoint presentation.
