Question for GLs Running SoE at GenCon

I'm running SoE games at GenCon, but I'm noticing that there's a $2 charge for players to sign up; just like any other game you'd register for.

Is anyone else who is running games seeing the same thing? I know that Agate wants the games to be free of charge, they wanted them treated like demos, but I don't see how that's possible from my vantage.

I've already brought this to Clovis and Nel. I just wanted to see if any other GLs were seeing the same thing.

Mine had the same thing happen. Interestingly, the 2-dollar increments that you have to charge don't have to be non-negative. I put in -2 dollars and it comes out to 0 cost. We'll see if the event actually gets approved, though.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if that stood. I don't think GenCon wants to let anyone run free events. Either players pay for the games, or the vendors do (by paying for space to run free demos).

My events haven't been approved yet either. If/when they are I hope they tell us where we're supposed to be running them.

Not sure how I feel about beng responsible for handling tickets...

I have directly asked the Gen Con organizers about this, and I was answered that the $2 ticket thing is the standard way to go. Basically, those who want to host a game (or, generally speaking, an event) are asked to register on the Gen Con website by filling the appropriate form (as you have done) to be given a space for free. Then, those who want to take part in the event must buy tickets (on the Gen Con website, as I have seen), with each ticket corresponding to 2 hours of play.

I have told Nelyhann about this, and he told me that since that's how Gen Con manages it, that's how it will go.

As always, if you have any issues, don't hesitate to contact me directly!

Sounds good. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the games to come out of review and finding out where we're supposed to run them.

Hope it gets done before the day of!

Given that it's taking a lot longer than I expected to get a review, I changed my events back to the $2 minimum. I don't want to get it rejected and then wait another week and a half for approval.

I think that's the wisest option. I've been told that's the standard way to go at Gen Con, so no reason to try to do otherwise.

I finally got my events returned for correction. Besides some minor typographical points, I need to have them understand that I am being sponsored officially. I've sent an e-mail directly to the person who returned my events to be corrected to see what he recommends with regards to specifying which canvas I will be running.

If we do have to specify this information, we should coordinate so that we're running different ones. I had intended to run Night of Fright as my primary choice - it may become the only choice I can offer.

Did you have to face specific difficulties to get your application accepted? It may be useful to know what you have to provide and how long you have to wait, so that we may know what to expect in the future!

As for the official sponsoring thing, what have they asked you to provide exactly?

Got notice this morning that the four events I submitted had been accepted for consideration.

It hasn't been confirmed yet for space, but that step is next.
