I guess its not only me who makes my SoE players travel a lot on their quests.
All this traveling has raised lots of questions about time to go from A to B. What if we travel over the mountain rather than the long way around and so on.
All this travel stuff has given me an idea. A maptool for iPad.
Basicaly a picture of the land map from the book. Point where you are going from, and to where (or draw with finger the route).
Answer some questions like if the travel is at winter, spring, summer or autum. Go by road or offroad. By foot, horse or carrige. + more questions about circumstances.
Based on the route and answers you get a time scale of the trip.
This app could be expanded (more stretch goal) with encounters and happenings based on location and time of year (example trip takes 3 days. 2. day a heavy rainstorm erupts).
Utdates with more details to the map (small towns, ruins and so on.), or maby a possibility to add places by our selves.
I think this would be a great kickstarter project or a kickstarter stretch goal.

Yeah that could work. Or just a table? (kicking it old school)

Re: Map app for iPad
Hello !
We worked on a new version of Book 2, a bigger one, which will contain some informations linked to the travels & journeys. Nel & I worked on a text concerning distances and durations, and I wrote "some" other texts also linked to this theme.
Those who have access to the ENGINE ROOM will soon discover them, they are actually translated.
The idea of an App Map is really good and Nel' is enthusiastic at preparing the next Kickstarsters. It could be a stretch goal... The most important is what we build / developp... with the community. In this order, we are very interesting in knowing what you liked and wait for

Re: Map app for iPad
I would say that a map is not that useful, cuz Daïn made a really awesome map, and you just have to download the file on your tablet and load it ! Though you can zoom on it and move with the finger, you need no app
Take this one for example (the French version, sry for that) : http://files.pierstoval.com/trikazel-by-Dain.jpg

Re: Map app for iPad
This was a great map, but is it possible to get it in hi-resolution?

Howdee folks,
You can find the thread talking about the maps here:
http://www.esteren.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=684
And the map is right there, to get it quickly:
Download Tri-Kazel ENG Map Full size - 4,8Mb - Resol:5488 × 4779
and the Political map:
Download Tri-Kazel ENG Political Map Full size - 4,8Mb - Resol:5488 × 4779
I've also thought about doing the same project but faced at least 2 issues during one of my game with a Varigal.
- It is too rigid. Nothing is written in stone. depending of the previous rains, the weather, the overall health of the horses and so forth, the time may vary quite a lot.
- Varigals have and still discover new shortcuts that change the time spent traveling. If you stick to the map too closely, you will face problems eventually. However, I agree that average travels datas between big cities would be more than appreciated
Cheers,
