Convention Scenario Wanted

Hullo, folks,

One of the things I'm looking for is a scenario to run at a gaming convention (CanGames here in Ottawa) in May. The scenario needs to be runable in a 4-hour time slot, and should have pre-generated player characters that can be used with it. I'm not picky about whether the scenario is in French, since I can translate it (as long as someone can give me a copy of it in Word or OpenOffice to do so).

So, what scenarios would Esteren folks recommend for this convention scenario that I want to run? And why?

Thanks, in advance. :)
Cheers!

...I'm new to the boards and to Shadows of Esteren, so please be kind to me.

Well, I don't know if you've yet had the opportunity to get your hands on it, but Poison seems like a good one to me: simple, straightforward, and yet mixed with elements that give a particular flavor to the universe of Shadows of Esteren. Overall, a good compromise to introduce a group of players to Esteren.
Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!

+1 for Clovis, I immediately thought about Poison.

Also, if you need it not that quick, maybe we can ask some users to translate one of his canvas, very useful when you need a scenario very quickly :)

Mr JohnK isn't made of that material. Mr JohnK can speak, read, write, mumble many languages. The language of our little friend Molière is well know of him.
The only thing that is still unknown though is whether he speaks all these languages ... all at once :D

Just teasing ;)

Canvas are the best choice for 4-hour time slot. Not all (some are shorter), but the most fit in this range. As I tell you I had thinking about a canvas using your woodwings and seems to me have a good chance to be played in 4 hours. I need to write and test it before but I don't want to spoil here before our own conv.

The good question is: wich kind of story do you like mastering in conv ?

I was thinking of the "Poison" scenario to be honest. Yes, I've actually got a copy of it in English, having bought the Book 0 - Prologue PDF off the Studio 2 Publishing website, as noted in the second English Kickstarter. My real question about that scenario is whether it will actually run close to 4 hours or not. Any thoughts on this?
Cheers!

 Being fluent in French (it's part of my translating job in everyday life), translating one of the canvases to English isn't a problem. It's *which* canvas to translate! :)
Cheers!

 That was funny. I once tried thinking in terms of three of the languages that I speak, read, and write fluently, but it gets very confusing, mon ami! And one starts to lose the basics of sentence structure for all of the languages in this case! :)
Cheers!

I had considered one of the Canvases, but the problem (as I mentioned in a previous post here) is knowing which Canvas is good for a 4-hour game at a convention, and what sort of themes the given Canvas might have. Insofar as the thinking about a Canvas with the woodwings, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with (and I also saw on the French forums that you've got another Canvas in development right now, too).

Bonne question! :)

One of the things I like to do in terms of game systems that I'm going to run at conventions is run a scenario or adventure that showcases and/or highlights some of the strengths of the game system. In the case of Shadows of Esteren, I haven't quite decided or figured out (not sure which yet) what the strengths of the game are. I know that I want to place an emphasis on the feel and nature of the game world, but other than that, I think with SoE, the scenario I run will have to have two or three combat scenes in it, as that seems to me to be one of the strengths of the game as well.

Your thoughts on this subject? :)
Cheers!

I'd say yes, obviously. It's just up to you to be concise enough in the way you run the scenario, to quicken the pace when needed, and to give your players a nudge in the right direction should they get stuck at some point.

To that effect, what I do is that I make the NPCs involved more or less useful and cooperative. For example, the village's Ansailéir can help the PCs by providing them with resources and advice, but he can also slow them down by keeping silent (and even giving the other villagers the order to keep quiet as well) because he doesn't like them sneaking around.
Allez, come on, allons-y, here we go, en avant, godspeed, hardi, let's do this!
