Tonic question
Tonic question
Do you have to buy a new tonic (+flux cartridge) every time it is used, or do you keep the tonic and just add new flux charges as with other artifacts?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Tonic question

Re: Tonic question
That's what I was doing too, but I noticed the Mageintist from Book 1 had two tonics, so made me reconsider.
Thought I'd double check with everyone here!

Re: Tonic question
A tonic is more than a simple Flux cartridge. As the description reads: "[it] uses special organic Flux cartridges, with secret additives.", so attempting to inject pure organic Flux instead of a Tonic would certainly yield very unfortunate results!
To get new Tonics, a Player will have to buy them at a properly stocked Magientist shop... or acquire them illegally, with all the risks that implies!

Re: Tonic question
So to be clear, Tonics are one use items?
If you fail the usage roll, do you need to buy a new tonic or just replace the flux cartridge? ... it just mentions that the cartridge (of Flux?) is spoiled.

Re: Tonic question
Oh dear, that's going to upset somebody.

Re: Tonic question
Basically, yes. Technically, the syringe can be refilled, but it requires a dose of the special Flux-based mixture.Gully a écrit :So to be clear, Tonics are one use items?
The dose of special Flux is wasted, which means you must find a new cartridge of Tonic to replace the lost one.Gully a écrit :If you fail the usage roll, do you need to buy a new tonic or just replace the flux cartridge? ... it just mentions that the cartridge (of Flux?) is spoiled.
Am I being clear?
An attempt at organic Flux-based treatment, heh?tamsyn a écrit :Oh dear, that's going to upset somebody.

Re: Tonic question
He thought he could use flux cartridges to 'refresh' the tonic and I let him so far. Maybe in the future a cost for a bag of 'tonic ingredients' that can be combined with a cartridge?

Re: Tonic question
Well, as it is mentioned in the text, the additives are "secret", so you'd have to see a full-fledged Magientist to get a true Tonic; it's probably about much more than just mixing a few herbs with organic Flux!
Still, a Magientst PC might know about the nature of these additives and brew their own vials of Tonic, but I would personally rule that such a Character must be a trained Vitalist, with at least 8 in the Medicine Discipline of Magience.

Re: Tonic question
Thanks Clovis, your helping a lot ... one last question:
It seems as described the tonic comes with the organic Flux preinstalled ... is there need to buy the Flux separate, or does the price of the tonic include the Flux?
