Each fighter then makes his Resolution roll according to the
order of action. The Attack rating is used, to which the result
of 1D10 is added. The Difficulty Threshold to beat here is
the Defense rating of the opponent. If the result of this roll
surpasses the opponent’s Defense rating, he is hit.

If opponent have defense 15 ill you hit if your attack total is 15?
It is bad clarification or in combat you must have more than Defense to hit?
The Leader should not hesitate to slaughter the PCs at the slightest mistake in order to instil a heavy, horrific atmosphere

I thought you have to have 16, ties go with the defender.

Yeah, that's how I read it too.

Does it specify that anywhere in the rules?

I figured that the Attack had to equal the Defense, just like when you roll a skill check your result only needs to equal the difficulty threshold, not go over it.

I agree that comparing Defense to the Difficulty Threshold is confusing, but "surpasses" only has one meaning.

If equal you hit. No marge so just apply the weapons damages. I don't see a problem here. If you give no damage consider your hit is too weak to hurt your opponent but you touch him.

Ok then maybe it needs clarification in the rules?

I've just taken a look at the original, French version, and here is what it reads:
Si le résultat de ce jet dépasse le score de Défense de l'adversaire, il est touché.
Here, "dépasse" (like "surpass" in English) clearly means "go beyond". I agree that such a notion is confusing since a comparison is made with a Difficulty Threshold previous to this mention. However, like tamsyn and Ovid, I consider that to actually hit an opponent, you have to beat their Defense rating, not just reach it.

My logic here is that if you reach a total score of 14 against an opponent with a Defense of 14, simply do the math: 14 - 14 = 0, which means that the attack is, so to speak, nullified.

That's how I consider things to be since, in many games (and not only role-playing games), the "ties benefit the defender" notion applies.

Yeah. I'd be happy saying that matching the Defense counts as a touch, if it comes to ruling about, e.g., powers and miracles.
